Antonio “Tony” Alvarado - Attorney and Mediator
Antonio “Tony” Alvarado is a lawyer in solo private practice in Austin, Texas since 2004 serving governmental relations and business development clients. He also consults with bar associations and is a certified mediator. He is an adjunct professor in the School of Business at St. Edward’s University.
Tony was Executive Director of the State Bar of Texas from 1995-2004. He was a member of the Board of Directors of both the State Bar (1989-1992) and the Texas Young Lawyers Association (1979-1981). From 1977 to 1995, he had a general practice in South Texas for seventeen years, where he was the name partner of a three-lawyer firm in Laredo for thirteen of those years. His clients included small business entities, a local bank and savings & loan association, a rural school district and a local cable company. He also represented indigent defendants in federal criminal court appointments in the Southern District of Texas. He was involved in major litigation involving commercial construction matters and oil and gas industry issues. He served in the U. S. Air Force JAG Corps (1972-1976).
Tony graduated from the University of Texas School of Law and is licensed to practice law by the Texas Supreme Court since 1972. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, and the U. S. Supreme Court.
He is a speaker and author on professionalism matters (having served on a State Bar Grievance Committee for District 12-A for 8 years), including the 2005 St. Mary’s Law Journal Fifth Annual Symposium on Malpractice and Professional Responsibility in San Antonio. Tony was course director of the 2006 SBOT Seminar in Dallas on Representing Small Business and a speaker at the 2007 SBOT seminar.
